Zoe Lauren Reed

Birth Story:

My contractions started on Sunday around 5 pm. Nathan had been out with a friend of his all day and I was just hanging around the house, so I decided to take a bath. I began feeling the contractions when I was in the tub but didn't think much about them. I'd been having them off and on for a few weeks, so I figured they were more false labor contractions that anything real. I ordered us some pizza and when Nathan got home, we ate and relaxed. I was having a hard time with this though because of the contractions, so I began timing them. They were pretty steady for a while and then began getting closer together and lasting longer. I called the on-call doctor who wanted me to go to the hospital to be monitored. We loaded up the hospital bag and headed down there. We got there around 11 and I was hooked up to the machines. But after several hours without any progress, I was sent home at 3 am, dialated only to 1 cm. I was given Ambien to help me sleep and she said she's probably see us later in the day.

We went home, had a snack, and went to bed. I got up at 11 the next morning, with the contractions coming stronger. Nathan had slept on the couch and said that he knew I was still hurting because he could hear me moaning in my sleep. We decided to call my regular OB/GYN and ask if he would see me instead of me going to hospital again. I didn't want to go up there just to be sent home again. So we head back to the doctor's office. I was dilated to 2 cm at this point and he admitted me to the hospital.

It took a little while for me to get hooked up to the machines and the IV, but it was finally all done. Dr. Carrington came in to break my water and found that the baby had already had her first bowel movement. which meant put me at risk for cesarean section. He He said that if she exhibited anymore signs of distress, that would be it. They had to do a flush of my uterus, so my epidural was put in and I was pain free rest of the time.

The progress was slow and eventually, they had to give me pitocin to get things moving. Toward the end, the baby was turned funny, which again put me in danger of c/s, but by 4 am, it was time to push and she had righted herself. After about 45 minutes of pushing, Zoe Lauren Reed was born.
